Outdoor Signage Ink

Outdoor signage needs ink that cures fully, bonds to the right substrate and keeps its colour under sun, wind and rain. This UV-curable signage ink is supplied from Epping, Cape Town for flatbed and roll-to-roll printers across South Africa.

Outdoor Signage Ink

UV ink for signs that must hold up outside

Outdoor signage ink is made for work that has to stay readable and presentable after long exposure to UV light, coastal moisture, dust and day to night temperature changes. It is used on rigid and flexible sign materials where the print must cure properly and grip the surface well.

This product is suited to shops, construction sites, forecourts, event boards, wayfinding, retail displays and promotional panels. In places like Cape Town, Durban and Gqeberha, coastal humidity can make substrate prep and curing more important than people first expect. On a windy site in Johannesburg or Pretoria, the sign may also need a harder wearing finish if it is handled often. Good results start with the right ink and the right curing settings, not just with a good file.

UV Ink supplies signage ink for printers that use UV-curable systems, with support from our Epping, Cape Town base and courier delivery across South Africa. We assist with compatibility checks, colour trials and production planning so you can order the right set the first time.

Printer fit, sizes and order options

This signage ink is supplied for flatbed and roll-to-roll printers that are set up for UV-curable systems. Before ordering, check the printhead type, ink channel configuration and whether your machine needs rigid media support, flexible media support or both. Some printers need a specific viscosity and cure response, so a simple compatibility check saves time and waste.

Order options are planned around production use rather than guesswork. Typical supply is in sealed containers suited to workshop handling and courier transport, with repeat order management available for busy shops that do regular sign work. Sample pack prep and colour trial support are available if you are testing a new substrate or adjusting a profile.

  • Suitable for flatbed and roll-to-roll UV printers
  • Used on rigid boards, coated sheets and flexible signage media
  • Available in production packs and sample quantities for testing
  • Can be matched to short runs, repeat work and larger sign jobs

If you are not sure whether your printer will accept the ink, send the machine details through the enquiry form and we will help you check the fit before you place an order.

Where outdoor signage ink works best

Outdoor signage printing covers a wide range of applications, and the substrate often matters as much as the artwork. It is a practical choice for boards that need clean edges, strong colour and reliable curing on the line.

It works well for:

  • Shop fascia panels and price boards
  • Directional signs and site signage
  • Retail display boards and promo panels
  • Construction site notices and safety boards
  • Event signage and temporary outdoor graphics
  • Internal signs that need extra scratch resistance

For coastal areas, allow for humidity, salt in the air and slower drying behaviour on some media. A sensible print plan reduces reprints and keeps the job moving.

Getting the cure right on your printer

UV-curable ink hardens when exposed to the correct curing system on the printer, usually with UV lamps or LED curing units depending on the machine. Proper curing is what gives the print its final handling strength and adhesion. If curing is too light, the surface may feel tacky or mark under pressure. If it is too strong for the media, you can get distortion, heat stress or a change in colour.

That point is often missed.

  • Confirm the printer’s curing method before ordering
  • Allow for substrate testing on the exact media to be used
  • Keep the print area clean, dry and free from dust

Loading and handling the ink

UV ink is a workshop material and should be handled with care. Always follow the safety data sheet for storage, cleanup and first aid steps, and wear gloves when handling ink, cleaning areas or working around fresh prints. Keep containers sealed when not in use, away from direct sun and away from heat sources. Spills should be cleaned promptly so they do not spread across rollers, boards or fitting tools.

Printer care matters too. Regular nozzle checks, head cleaning and filter inspection help keep output consistent. If you are switching between media types or moving from indoor work to outdoor signage, it is worth checking the curing settings and feeding path before the next run. Small problems in setup can show up later as poor gloss, weak bond or edge lift.

Our team can assist with remote tech help, safe handling briefing and operator training. Hennie on technical support and Thabo on training can help your team with practical steps for day-to-day use, while Moagi and Shanaaz coordinate courier stock support and order movement from Epping. It is better to sort a print issue early than to lose a full batch later.

Before you order ink

When ordering outdoor signage ink, send as much job detail as possible. That includes your printer model, the media type, whether the job is rigid or roll-fed, and the finish you want. If the substrate is unusual, mention it upfront so we can advise on adhesion testing or a colour trial before you go into production.

Please check the following before confirming:

  • Printer make-up and curing system
  • Substrate type and surface finish
  • Required print volume and repeat schedule
  • Site conditions such as sun, rain, wind or coastal exposure
  • Whether sample packs or operator training are needed

Our base in Epping serves Cape Town and surrounding areas including Bellville and Paarl, with courier delivery to Johannesburg, Durban, Pretoria and Gqeberha. Michael van Wyk leads the business with a team focused on practical support, from ink selection to repeat order management. If you need help matching the right product to the job, start with the enquiry form on our contact page and we will take it from there.

Ink questions

Can this ink be used on any signage substrate?

No. It must be matched to the surface and printer setup. Some materials need adhesion testing first, especially if they are coated, flexible or used outdoors near the coast.

What should I do before using a new batch on a live job?

Check the safety data sheet, wear gloves, run a sample print, confirm curing and adhesion on the actual substrate, then proceed with the full job once the test is satisfactory.
